  • Possession of a valid Rhode Island photo identification card or driving license
  • All necessary registration fees and taxes have been paid
  • For vehicles manufactured in the year 2000 or earlier, additional requirements include:
  • Submission of the Application for Registration and Title, bearing the previous owner's notarized signature, or attending the DMV in person alongside the previous owner
  • A VIN check report obtained from a local police station is essential

Rhode Island Firearm Registration Forms

In Rhode Island, although there is no requirement for residents to register a firearm post-purchase, regulations are in place for acquiring a gun within the state.

Before the purchase of a handgun, individuals must complete a hunting safety course, earning a "blue card" that grants permission to buy the firearm.

Additionally, a background check and a 7-day waiting period are mandatory before one can take ownership of the gun.

For those wishing to carry a firearm openly or concealed, an application for a License to Carry a Concealable Weapon must be made, including the following documentation:

  • A Rhode Island License to Carry a Concealable Weapon Application, notarized and sealed by the County Clerk or the local police chief.
  • Evidence of completion of a recognized firearm safety course.
  • 3 typed reference letters from non-relatives, each individually notarized, endorsed, and dated in the presence of a certified notary.
  • A notarized** letter from the applicant detailing valid reasons** for needing the license.
  • 2 color passport-style photographs, each 1″ x 1″.
  • An **FBI Fingerprint Applicant Card **(FD-258), completed by the applicant.
  • Certified "true copies" of 2 distinct forms of photo identification, accompanied by notarization.
  • The appropriate fee to cover all licensing costs.

Rhode Island Boat/Vessel Registration Forms

  • Completed, notarized Rhode Island Boat Registration Application.
  • Fully filled-out and notarized Rhode Island Outboard Motor Registration Application
  • Notarized Bill of Sale form
  • Evidence of ownership for:
    • New boats (dealer): Manufacturer’s certificate of origin, Proof of sales tax paid
